How it Works

The majority of solar installations focus on domestic hot water – the water that is used in taps, sinks and showers, etc. The solar systems work by pre-heating water before it enters your existing water heating system, drastically reducing energy consumption.

For single family homes, a one panel system is usually all that is required. These systems involve a single 8ft x 4ft Solar Panel (normally mounted on a south facing sloped roof), a Solar Boiler (which contains a solar pump and heat exchanger), and an additional storage tank similar to your existing tank for storing the solar heated hot water.

For multi unit homes, or larger family homes, a two panel system is likely required. This system is very similar to the single panel system, except for an additional panel on the roof, and a potentially larger storage tank.

Larger systems consisting of between 4 and 200 panels can be designed for apartment buildings, hotels, recreation centres, hospitals, restaurants, aquaculture and industrial applications. To arrange a site visit, please contact us.

Doctor Solar installs the Thermo Dynamics Solar Boiler system to provide your hot water needs. Thermo Dynamics’ 1-collector system is CSA certified and rated for a potential energy output of 6.00 GJ/year. The 2-collector system is the highest rated CSA certified system in Canada with a potential energy output of 9.94 GJ/year.
